Hi, Great lesson! I wish I could hear it better. Does it seem to anyone but me that the audio portion of Beth's recent videos has diminished from earlier videos? I have compared the volume of Beth's latest videos with her previous videos and the sound of her latest videos is very, very low even though the volume on my laptop is to the max. Is it possible that Beth's microphone is not turned on?

In the directions on the left hand hold, it sounds like you are saying that only the thumb is touching. Does the neck not lie against the lower knuckle of the index finger? When I try this the violin wants to slide forward?

found a note that I've never seen before.  it looks like an eighth note, but the bubble is hollow like a half note.  If the first measure is in the sheetmusic, does it sound like or is it played like the second measure, or the third?  or am I way off?

Does anyone have suggestions for adult amateur and beginner violin competitions?

If you're just learning to read music, keep working at this. You'll love it when you get it.

Red, Red Rose

Beth. I've heard that tune before!  It was originally written by Robby Burns, the great Scottish poet of the 1700's.  Beautiful tune, well played!!

Buried in one of my other recent posts, a few of us were talking about the community orchestra's that we play in (or would like to one day!)  And I thought it might be nice to pull those out in a separate thread.

So, if you are a member of a beginner string group / orchestra / ensemble etc, and by way of inspiration for us all, would you share the website address and location it serves?  There may be other Violin Lab members in those areas who are not aware of the opportunities on their doorstep!

To get things going, here are two I know of in the UK:

https://www.ellso.org/  - East London Late Starters Orchestra (I think JoJo used to go here?)
https://www.ylss.org/ - Yorkshire Late Starters String (rehearses in Leeds)

Simon

(PS - hope this isn't considered inappropriate advertising?!)
