Dawn Mortimer
Hi - I am a new violin student. I have rented a violin and have recently had difficulty tuning the instrument. For example both the fine tuners for the A and D string are in so far that I can not turn them anymore.  However, the strings are still out of tune.  I have tried relieving them and working with the peg box and that is not working either.  The peg tuners either become very loose or so tight that they bounce back. Any suggestions on what the issue may be?  Thank you - Dawn

Can someone tell me how the ABRSM grades relate to the Suzuki books?  ie Does Suzuki book 1 equal ABRSM grade 1,etc.
Thanks

Its so funny, because I play the opposite, I am very comfortable in 1, 2, and 3, but 4 and 5 are much harder for me to play.

Hi Beth,
Thank you so much for this site and all your videos, you are a phenomenal teacher.
I have a question... as a beginner I am finding it a bit hard to maintain the little gap between the inside of the left hand and the fingerboard. Should I continue practicing to maintaining the gap (at the expense of learning other things), or should I try to make progress on other skills (there are so many) and continue playing even if I do not always maintain the gap?

I am nervous that this habit will be hard to kick when I try to learn vibrato eventually.

Thanks again!
Guillaume

Hi everyone :)
I just wanted to share something with you... Sol Gabetta with her 200 years old cello plays and sings:
She is one of the reasons for me to start with a stringed instrument :D

Hi Beth, I was searching the video library for a pizzicato lesson (spec. how to hold the bow, any tips for changing quickly back to using the bow, and I just attended a performance of Stravinsky's Sym. in 3 mvmt's. - pizz. while maintaining a normal bow grip). Did I miss it in the library?

Hi Beth!

I was trying to work on this piece last night and was very grateful to have this tutorial. I had no idea that those first A and D harmonic notes were supposed to be played in 3rd position. I find these Superstudies exercises to be fun and interesting to play, but without guidance I think that I wouldn't be able to play them. So again, thanks for these video tutorials and I look forward to the next ones now that I can actually understand them and play them as intended.

Cheers!

Hi Beth, A few weeks ago I purchased a BonMusica shoulder rest through VL Resources, and I like it much better than the shoulder rest that I was using. I made a few slight modifications to it, but now that I have seen your video I will be more courageous in shaping it to fit even better. In one of your videos you gave a link to videos of Yehudi Menuhin teaching a small group of children. He did not use a shoulder rest. Question: Isn't it harmful not to use a shoulder rest because of the possibility of wearing the lacquer off of the violin?

Beth, My "Rhythm-A-Day" book arrived today and I was looking forward to viewing your videos and playing along with the rhythm. However, Rhythm A Day videos 1, 2 and 3 are missing. I noticed that you referenced the audio files, but they do not seem to be working. Please advise. Thank you.
