Guidelines and Expectations for Private Video Exchange
Dear prospective student,
General:
- Your video submissions are private and only exist on your membership page.
- These exchanges are for me, Beth Blackerby, to give you feedback and practice recommendations on your technique and repertoire skills.
- Please be free to ask questions in your video. I would rather hear your questions than receive emails!
- My video responses are posted 2 to 3 business days after submission.
- The new Private Video Exchange feature is not a substitute for watching videos.
- Do not be shy about sending video with mistakes or problems. That's what this is for. It is not for a critique on how well you perform a piece. This service is for learning!
- If I feel I am not a good fit to be your teacher, I reserve the right to discontinue the Private Video Exchange service. In this very rare instance, I will dowgrade your account to the Basic Membership.
Repertoire:
- The expectation is that you follow the pieces in the Violin Lab curriculum. However, I am happy to help with other pieces as long as they are written expressly for violin (e.g. no pop songs) and are level appropriate (e.g. no Paganini Caprices).
Premium Plus Members:
- You are encouraged to send in weekly video submissions to maintain a sense of continuity.
- You are limited to one video per week. (If you're unable to submit a video, we can not accept an extra make-up video the next week).
- Please try and keep videos under 15 minutes. You don't need to play everything you are working on each time you submit a video. Ideally, you play what needs the most troubleshooting and feedback.
