Hi everyone! I'm new here and thought I'd submit a video of my playing. I'd love to know your thoughts. This was filmed in June, and was my first ever violin recital. I had been studying violin for less than 5 months at the time... I study with Krista Broadway Swider, one of Beth's former students! Thanks for watching, and enjoy! (Also special thanks to Rosa, the wonderful cellist who accompanied me!)

Thank you everyone for the applause and especially for the suggestions. It is great to be part of such a supportive community as we all seek to improve our playing.

Congratulations !! What you are doing after only five months of studying the violin is outstanding. Keep doing it and soon you will do it much better. A few tips : Increase your tempo a little bit, try to make some vibrato and tell the cellist to play more piano or to place the microphone not so close.

Kim! I'm so proud... your intonation, straight bow, memorization and poise are all simply fabulous! @Beth: We are working on smooth, relaxed shifting before entering the realm of vibrato, but it will come soon!

Brava Kimber!

Welcome to ViolinLab and what a nice performance. Having a music background sure helps a lot, but 5 months on the violin is still very impressive.

Great job and keep us posted on your progress. I sure need all the inspiration I can get.    :-)

Hmmmm... no music stand! Bravo for memorizing. Next time I would switch places with the cellist so you can have eye contact with her. Looking forward to hearing you again.

Hi Anne Thank you! All through school I studied the piano and lately found that I missed making music. The violin is such a beautiful instrument that I decided to start taking violin lessons. Last fall we had my husband's old violin worked on so that I could use it for my lessons. As an adult I think I'm more patient working on foundations and understand the importance. My teacher (a moderator on this site) is very helpful at offering suggestions and corrections that seem to do the trick when I'm stuck. So far I am enjoying playing the violin and my husband and son are very encouraging. Thank you for the kind words, I look forward to viewing some of your posts.

Hi Kimber, welcome! Enjoyed your video. Excellent foundations: Intonation, rhythm, sound. Just curious: How did you come to the violin?
