Hello everyone,

I subscribed a few month ago and find violin lab very! helpful. But I was a bit shy about posting, but without posting I canít get any advice, so here it is

I would prefer to embed it but somehow this doesnít work...when i click on sharing I only get the option  copy...does anybody know a solution for this?

Thank you so  much for your response Beth. Like Diane I love to watch your bow control and now I have lots of ideas how to improve mine. I really like your practice course and now I am going to do a bow line....and I am going to check out the Telemann.

You have alot of talent and skills Barbara, thanks for posting! That sounds like a technically challenging piece and I look forward to Beth's response video to learn more! Thanks Elke I'll refer back to your guide when i get up the courage to post!

Dear Fabiano, thank you for your comment.

The piece is Gavotte with two variations out of Suite Italienne by Stravinsky

Didnít find sheet music online but a you tube video where they show the music

Barbara, by the way, where could I get the sheet music of this piece? I couldn't find it out.
Thank you.

Barbara Holl,

sure you do have an advanced technique. My impression is that you give major attention to techniques, more than to the sense of the music. It's risky to affirm that, for the piece you played here is rather abstract, with a melodic line less explicit. In fact, it's a very difficult piece, difficult to feel there the phrases and their liaison.

It's too enriching to have you around here!! Thanks for having come.

Hi and welcome. So glad you posted. You are a more advanced player and this piece looks to be at around the Suzuki Bk 7 level. This would be an example of you needing Beth!

But I do have a few guesses as to what you might possibly try on this. Your vibrato is constant and your DS are very nice, you have great bow control, and wonderful playing overall, and I look forward to your response video!

Here are my guesses:
-more dynamic range (bow distribution, sounding point)
-wider vibrato in spots
-more articulation on the spiccato

These are just guesses-take w/a grain of salt!

Thank you all for   your comments :-)

Beth I sent you an e mail with the music and hope it works.

The problem with you tube was I tried it with my tablet. With my computer it works. So next time I know.

Dear Barbara

Welcome to the site. You play excellently.

You have contiuous vibrato
fast fingers
good double stops
straight bow
excellent shifting
higher positions

There is one suggestion: Your sounding point should be in the middle lane or even closer to the bridge for notes that need emphasis.

If I want to be pernickety I would say foremost that your thumb is straight and it ought to be bend.

And even though you have almost perfect straight bowing I would say that at the tip you tend to be closer to the bridge than you are for the rest of the bow. So instead of tapering off at the end of a note, your note is likely to sound louder than the rest of the bow does. Unless you alter your pressure so much at the tip to make it lighter.

On the whole I would say you play excellently. Well done and God bless.

Wow, excellent playing Barbara! I'm glad you posted! In the near future I will be adding a private feedback channel to the site, so you'll be able to send me a video without community sharing if you prefer. Could you email (violinlab.com)  me a scan of your music so I can see your markings and then I will make a response video for you. If you can use a scanning phone app like Turboscan that is preferable and extremely simple to use. It's much better than taking a picture which renders often poorer quality.

Hi Barbara, I have attached two pictures here of what I get in Youtube when I click on "share" under your video.
The first one is the one you probably refer to. There is the link to copy. But what you need to do is click on the little button with Embed to the left of Facebook. That will give you the second image. It is the code right next to your picture (the one that starts with <iframe) that you need to copy (there is also a little copy button on that screen). Then, when you create a community post click on "embed" and paste this code into the embed area that opens right underneath the area where you write your post.
I would suggest that you recreate your post and embed the video. It works this way also, but text (and thus links also) in the community posts is visible to the world whereas embedded code is visible only to VL-members.
