So, Beth, you mentioned you will be starting videos on playing 3rd position.  I am interested in learning Viola.  Since the notes in 3rd position are similar to the first position viola notes, would it be beneficial to learn at the same time?  or should I try to learn one at a time.  I've already started trying to learn 3rd but I wonder if learning viola would confuse me or if doing them at the same time would be easier.  The local symphony I started playing with could use another viola.

Karen, I honestly don't know how confusing it would be since I can't read viola clef at all. As long as there isn't a second mental step, it should be fine. By that I mean if when you see the note, you don't first think violin fingering, then relate it to viola fingering, then you'll be learning it correctly.
