I LOVE my dog Sam !

He's the best audience I have !   He usually wanders in the room when I'm practicing and this time he asked to get up in the comfy butterfly chair in the room.  I just about "never" allow him on any furniture but I made an exception this time...lol.

Well, after he got himself situated.....he looked up at me.  He was so attentive sitting there waiting for me to play something so I started Meditation and watched him in the mirror as I went through it...doing my absolute best for my very appreciative audience !   LOL...I wish I could have taken a pic of him sitting there eyes on every move I made....ears perked up (he's a rat terrier so his ears are always up)...he stayed for most of it then got down on the floor and made himself comfortable there.

I tell you.....dogs really really ARE man's/woman's/violinists best friends !   Did I say how much I LOVE my dog ??  x-)

I finally know how you feel, Eileen.

My husband's niece brought with her their little shih tzu and I sort of experimented in playing the violin.  He was so cute, tilting his head in from side to side.  Then he sort of kept a little distance but still had his eyes and ears on my while I play.

I had a newt once when I was in high school.... it died because I was too late in noticing that it was out of its cage...... :)

Hi Mercy,

You bet !  He's always around when I play.  He'll just wander into the room and sit by my feet or curl up on the rug.  I notice he especially likes the higher notes.  I figure I must be doing something right !  ;-D

I totally agree with you Eileen - dogs are the best audience and the best judges. I personally have 2 Golden Retrievers ( a male and a female) and when I started playing the violin, 9 monthos ago, my dogs used to run away from me, I guess the sound was disturbing. Now, months later,  they stay next to me and remain quiet while I am playing. " Whicht is a good signal, it means my sound has improved". so rely on your dog's judgment and enjoy its company.

Lol Donna,  I like cats too, but we don't have one.....Just Sam and a whole bunch of fish.  Oh...and a salamander/newt who comes out of hiding when I play the A tuning note on my speed shifter program.

Nice dog!  I love dogs myself, but I'm still partial to cats.  I envy you.  My cat meows like a she-devil whenever I practice my violin.  I have half the mind to kick her out, hehehehehe.
