Tricia's second link reminded me of one of Mr. Been's shows!!

The group "PaGAGnini" is a hoot. Here they are performing Pachabel's Canon (the performance starts at about the 40 second mark):

Canon de PaGAGnini

Best wishes,

Frank

Hi Karen:

Now that you mentioned, the lady at the center/right-side has an instrument with an unusual shape which I did not notice before. Does it has more than 4 strings? The body is uneven from the sides of the fingerboard. Mmmm! ???

Cute videos.  What is the instrument the man and woman in the center are playing? in Tricia's second link? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jc7LyERAKc0&featur

i thought they were violas (really big ones) but they are huge and the fingerboards are offset.

I have to believe that those bows they use for their stunts in the vids Beth and Patricia posted can't possibly be their GOOD ones !  x-D

Here's an irreverent poke at Mozart....lol....that poor poor Steinway !

LOL....I've seen the ones with the Irish step dancing fella before and he's a hoot !   Simon, you're right about the way many folks take classical so seriously and frown on this sort of thing, but ...eh....they need to chill a little and just enjoy it.   I think folks who can cut up like this show just how incredibly talented they are with their instruments !   I'm not good enough yet to be able to fool around in this way, but ....ha...I've wanted to !  I think it would be great fun...in fact, I'm trying to come up with something funny to do someday for our "teacher talent show" we have every other year at the school where I work.    People like to see comedy at these events and to just go up there and play something serious is a bit of a yawner.

If I ever do, I'll be sure to post a vid...lol.

This is what I love about music - it can be so 'serious' and yet so much fun too!  I know many would frown on treating 'classical' music this way but I say, why not?  Here in the UK, the number of kids learning instruments is dropping all the time and of those who do learn, many give up in their teenage years when it isn't 'cool' anymore.  If shows like these can inspire, motivate and encourage the young to pick up an instrument - and do it in an entertaining way - then I think it's great!  I would love to see these guys do some shows here.

It's worth seeking out the other Igudesman & Joo clips for some entertainment and light relief from practice, or other work!

Oh that was tooooooo much fun. It's true what they say, music and humor are universal languages.   You certainly made my day. Many many many thanks.

Cheers,

Ray
