Hi all,

Here is a video message from Diane Allen, who has recently authored the Fingerboard Workbook series. We are holding a live streaming event October 8th to help all those needing help with learning where all those notes are on the violin. It will be an interactive event.  You can just observe, type in questions, or even activate your webcam and ask questions in person. I can't wait to see how this is done, because it might be something we use in the future here at Violin Lab.

The details are on the home page on the news reel. Registration for the event is accessible through the video "Violin Fingerboard Workshop: Oct. 8th 10:00 am central" posted as a lesson under "Recently Added"

Hope you'll join us! Even is you're comfortable with the topic, please join the event to see how this marvelous technology works.

Hi Diane, I did go to the link to register, but didn't see any prompt for setting up a camera.   I'll give it another look and see what I can find.  Thanks !

Shelley !  I hadn't heard/read about your violin !   I hope it's easily remedied !

Hi Diane,

thank you for your kind words! I just wish we had a luthier in this area.  It is a two hour drive to the closest one.  You would think a city like Savannah, GA would have one (that's only 45 minutes from me) but nope! The closest is Charleston, SC - two hours away.  :-(

If anyone DOES know a luthier in Savannah please send me their name!!

Thanks!
Shelly

Shelly - Sorry to hear about your violin. These things happen and are easily fixed by someone who knows what they are doing. My violin has been glued numerous times.

Ray - the text is on the homepage newsreel. I'll post it here as well.

Hi! Diane Allen here! Violin Lab Members are a vibrant group of violin players dedicated to learning, improving, and growing through music and the violin. How do I know? Your online presence is strong! You are a Violin Lab Member and have access to Beth’s amazing teaching and resources. Many of you have made your way over to my websites via Violin Lab. It is a testimony of your interest, curiosity, and intrigue with the world of expressing oneself through the violin and music.

In gratitude for Beth’s recommendations and in gratitude for the many of you who I’ve already met through my services – I am offering a special class for Violin Lab Members. Fingerboard Workshop for Violin Lab Members is a class that will concentrate on finding notes on a blank fingerboard. We will go through concepts that will help you find notes in 3 different ways: by sight, sound & feel. The goal being that you can look at a piece of music and instantaneously know where the notes are and how they will sound. During the class – I will be giving away Fingerboard Workbooks. For every 10 participants I will do a fun drawing for a workbook for the position of your choice!

The class will be held through Live Streaming Video! Beth & I will be on live video and you will be able to participate either through text or video (if you have a webcam). I just love win-win situations! Violin Lab Members will get a free class on de-mystifying the fingerboard, Beth will get her first Live Stream Experience (watch out Beth – your members are going to LOVE it and request more from you) and I will get the pleasure of meeting and working with you!

The Details! Who: Violin Lab Members (this event is hidden and only open to Violin Lab folks)

What: Fingerboard Workshop through Live Stream Video

Where: You in front of the highest speed computer you can muster (If you can easily watch the videos on Violin Lab then you should be fine.)

When: Saturday, October 8, 8:00 am PDT (10:00am Central, 11:00am Eastern, -7 GMT)

Cost: Free

How: 1. Prior to 10/8/11 – go to the video page: "Violin Fingerboard Workshop: Oct. 8th 10:00 am central", which is accessible from your home page under the column "Recently Added".

2.fill out the registration and make an RSVP! (Vokle is a professional, non-commercial company. They will not abuse your registration information.)

3. Supplies for class: violin, pencil, paper, computer with speakers or headphones. If you have a webcam and want to participate through video – follow Vokle’s directions for selecting your camera.

4. 10/8/11 – Go to the video page, Join the Event and have fun!

At the beginning of the class I will go through all the steps for using Vokle. Keep in mind that this is all user friendly stuff. It may seem like a lot because it’s new – but I’ll walk you through it. Any violinist can handle this! During the class you will be able to Chat via text with all your Violin Lab friends – but try to pay attention to the class…OK?

Questions? Diane Allen info@myviolinrecital.com I look forward to seeing you soon! Smiles! Diane

Hi Diane and Beth,

Thanks for setting up this workshop. :) Beth, the text resources that Diane mentions in her video have you posted the resources?  If so, I have not been able to find it.

Cheers,

Ray

I believe Diane said somewhere that it will be recorded and posted here afterward.  :-)

Hi!

Is it possible to record the session? I'm not sure yet will I be able to participate. Of course recorded session isn't the same as interactive, but still it would be nice to see how it went.

Make that 6 !  I'll be there !

One thing, I couldn't find anything that gave explanations about how to set up a webcam.  I'd like to get that all figured out before the event.

Thanks so much Diane !!   I look forward to meeting with you and Beth on the 8th...and learning something that'll help me to become a much better musician !

It looks like Vokle is fine with Registrations but does not have an RSVP for this event. Not to worry. I just wanted a head count. The Registrations will do the same. So far we've got at least 5 signed up!
