Yes, Diane, we work so hard on our music and think we are making such progress.  And then in the blink of an eye (or the flick of a baton?) reality hits. It's humbling but I have to laugh.  We will get there eventually.

Practice, practice, practice.  Laurie and Beth were full of great ideas at the Buffalo workshop this year, there is hope.  But I'm not there yet, of course.  Staying with the rhythm is always a great start.

Sightreading at Performance Tempos
Ugh, Vicky, sight reading at performance tempo is like the worst thing to look forward to. There is little opportunity for following in the section when sight reading. One has to be independent. When we have to go through a lot of music, it can be very stressful, but if I care more about staying in rhythm than with anything else, it works out better. I have to just go for it without fear at faster tempos. It seems like a skill that needs to be developed- needs lots of IMSLP pieces interspersed into my daily practice, to really develop it so that it its solid.
