Hello,

Can someone explain the process for filming a video of myself playing and then getting it onto YouTube to get it ready to link to ViolinLab?  I currently do not have a YouTube account.  Do I need one?  I have found the instructions on how to embed a video on the ViolinLab website/. Thanks!

Michael

The first step is definitely, as Dianne said, to record yourself and save this video somewhere in the cloud. It doesn't necessarily have to be YouTube. You can also embed a video for example from Vimeo or from a Google Drive file. I don't know how easily it is to embed from Vimeo, I just know that for a Google Drive video it is not as straightforward as with YouTube. That is why generally people here do it from a YouTube account. I have all my videos marked as "unlisted" which means they are only visible to the people I share them with.

Theoretically you could also just include a link to a Google Drive file instead of embedding the file. The disadvantage there is that since a link is just plain text it will be visible to the whole world. The community pages here are not private. The only thing that is private (i.e. accessible only to logged in members) are embedded videos. Non-members will see a comment that this message includes members-only content.

Start here if you want to set up your YouTube account.

Hi Michael, I can only explain what I do. I record myself either on a video camera or a phone, copy that file to my computer, and then the YouTube login is associated with a gmail account. After logging in, there is an upload selection at the top of the screen. There may be a way to go directly to Youtube from your phone. Hope this helps.
