What are your favourite violin duets?

I am hoping to play with my ten year old daughter who is catching up with me fast and soon will overtake me...

Thank you all, you are wonderful!

After your suggestion, Beth, I searched for violin duets in the amazing IMSLP and am now slowly going through 551 results :-)

For now, we have decided to work on the Mazas, Op. 38, Duo 1. If things go well, you might all have the opportunity to see us performing it. Fingers crossed!

Wow, it's impressive that your daughter is even willing to play duets with her mom! Another wonderful resource for music is IMSLP.org which contains thousands of pieces of public domain works. You can search violin duets and probably find all kinds of goodies.

Hi Vayia,

What a great idea and shared experience with your daughter.  Laurie Scott, Bill Dick (both who are great instructors at Beth's Austin Summer Workshop), and Winifred Crock have written a Book 1 and 2  called Learning Together.  They can be played solo or as an ensemble.  For both books there is a seperate companion book with the piano part.  There is a melody, harmony, and bass parts for each piece of music.  So they all can be played: solo, duet, duet with cello, and even a pianist.  They come complete with a CD.

Hope this helps.

May The Beat Be With You,

Ray

Hi.  Look for the Suzuki Book of duets.  Check Amazon and on Ebay.  Also Barbara Barbara has one as well.
Stay tuned. Diane in Southern California.

Wow, that's great! I found this thread where someone was asking a similar question about duets for Grade 4 ABRSM students. The Mozart OP 70 looks challenging, the other suggestions look like they follow a progression. Good luck!

Thank you Dianne.

We are both working to ABRSM Grade 4.

Hi Vayia, not sure what level of playing you and your daughter are doing, but if just starting out, if I was looking for a duet book, I would try this one. There is then another progressive book in the series after that one. When I worked with my teacher, I used the Belwin Series, with this as the first one in the series of 3 books. I'm sure others can suggest other duet books depending on what level of playing you are doing- there are so many great duet books out there.
