Hello VLabbers

I've noticed lately that i'm becoming more dependent on having the music sheet in front of me, and not being able to memorize or play something from beginning to end just from memory, and honestly it feels bad because i was able to look at a music sheet and be able to memorize it easily after 4 or 5 repetitions, so  i was wondering is this ok? am i over reacting ? or can i do something about it ?

Thank you <3

Ayoub, I think you're over reacting ;) The reason it's harder to memorize is because the music is becoming longer and more complex. There are just more notes now! I could easily memorize a short easy piece in no time, but it would take months to memorize a difficult long piece.

P.S.

You might just want to practice a piece in smaller units, just a few measures, to commit them to your memory. That may help.

Dear Ayoub

Could it be that the pieces that you are playing now are so much more complicated than what you used to play before?

If that is the case then you might just need more repetition with sight reading before it is engrained in your memory. In this case: do not worry.
