Hi folks at violinlab. I am very happy to be back into my violin playing. Here I share with you guys what I played back on Jan 3rd. Hope you like it. I don't know if I am an advanced or an intermediate student. My reading skills are almost null :( This got me quite discouraged and quit violin for quite a while. I picked it up because I love playing but I am terrible at reading and dividing music. Better times will come I'm sure.
Will be uploading more videos soon.

Cheers.

Juan.

Hi Juan Pablo. It's my understanding from your previous post that you can read music (know where the notes fall on the staff), but reading the music at speed is the challenge. This would mean spending enough time with it. I would suggest slowing the piece you are working on (change the YouTube or audio tool speed to the lowest audible value) and try to play along.

If the rhythms are difficult to interpret, then that would be another separate area-  rhythm training. That would also have value being done slowly, by taking each rhythm pattern you see on your music that is difficult to play, and look at only that note group, & clap the rhythm (not using the instrument for that training).

When I started reading in 3rd position, I had a problem knowing when to switch strings. I also flipped 1st and 3rd fingers when reading any position. I color coded my music for a while and I also used flash cards with the staff and one note on it for the 1st & 3rd finger reading problem. That took a long time, but it finally stuck. My husband kept holding a card up for me throughout the week. :)

Good luck and hope this helps.

Woops-I wanted to add that I really enjoyed listening to your piece. Wow- you are such a fine player!

I deeply appreciate your comments Elke and Ayoub. Thank you for taking a few minutes to listen. I will keep on working and try to make the best of it :)

Juan Pablo, did you see that Beth launched the Note Reading section while you were "away"? It is just for people like you :)! It would be such a pity if you allowed this little detail to keep you from advancing, let alone to quit the violin!

You truly are a fantastic player, you should never discourage yourself and stop playing, reading music is easy and it can be fun,
I really really loved your playing very expressive and emotional

Keep up the good work and don't stop :)
