David, I've always used the International edition with the Galamian edits. |

Thank you all for your supportive comments. Mary, I have never tried a baroque bow, but would love to. Can't imagine playing too much louder, though - that might be some of the problem - that I've alway tried to have a big sound and now it's hard for me to quiet down and add nuance - as Dianne correctly pointed out. Beth, thank you so much for taking the time to offer your advice on interpretation. Like I said above, I do have a problem toning it down and am consciously trying to do so. I'll go through it slowly as you said (I remember watching a video where Itzhak Perlman said to always start very slowly). I did want to ask if you could refer me to a particular edition of this piece that you would recommend or if you have an annotated edition that you could share (as you did with the Meditation of Thais). David Have you ever tried playing with a baroque bow? It really pulls the sound out of the violin I think because of the extreme tension of the bow hair. You have a very solid bold sound as it is but I would be curious to hear what this sounds like with your playing a baroque bow. Just a thought. |

Violinists all strive for that professional sound- and I think you have it. It is very distinct in your bow arm. I was literally stunned when listening to it. Take this with a grain of salt, but I almost wished you used even more contrasts (crescendos/diminuendos) as this piece seems to cry out for it. You seem to already be playing at or near a professional level. I can hardly wait for Beth's video response. |

Wow, I really enjoyed listening to you!! I'm definetly not even near to this level of playing, but I love Bach and you played wonderfully... That was amazing. |

What a beautiful sound you have, particularly love to listen to this...You played it so effortless. Btw, glad to see you and hear you play again, it has been a long while...Still remember this room and the beautiful light fixture. Mary, would you like me to photograph the piece and send it to u via e mail? I have not practiced that difficult piece since I asked to play/learn it together. I will try to do it tomorrow. |
