Hi Beth, Basic question, I'm going over the sheet music for Bach's minuet No.3. For the A notes is it up to my creative licence to choose between 4th finger on the D string instead of using the open A string? It seems to me using the D string brings more colour into the piece. Thanks, Ray 4 Responses Posted: April 22, 2011 Last Comment: April 26, 2011 |

Very indepth explanation, thanks Beth, especially the range of examples from different songs. I will be setting this video aside to refer to again ... and again. Ray |

Thanks Beth, looking forward to the video. I thought something like this would have a few rules around it. Thanks for looking into it. Ray |

Hi Ray. Great question. Choosing between 4th fingers and opens does follow a few general rules, then after that it's up to the creative license of the player. Let me look for some examples where the choices are clear cut, and some where it's up to the player. This makes for a good tutorial. Thanks. Meanwhile, go ahead and use 4th finger if it sounds better to you. I think I know the spot your talking about, and I would agree that there is more colour playing it on the D string. |
