This is a response to a few recent posts about Vibrato integration. I'm loving this series. I think my vibrato has improved too.

I also tried a different flow with audio recording. I think it's better (except the microphone doesn't like the Cs on my violin).

thank you - that is helpful. You make it look so easy, I sometimes feel like I almost get it - vibrato - just for a second and then its the consistency I guess I need to work on and easier pieces like you said. I think when I start to feel relaxed I might get a small moment of doing it correctly. Hope with practice to someday get to where it looks and sounds easy like yours, may take me years, but working on it, fun.

Thanks Beth itīs good to know that this is the right path :) But there is still the issue of handpositions.. it feels like I have 2 different handpositions, one for vibrato and one for normal playing. I hope that will disappear with more practice on integrating the vibrato in simple tunes...

Andreas,

Very nice vibrato!!  Don't worry about the extra little bounces at the frog. THe important thing is your vibrato is very steady and even. I like the speed too!

Armin, I made a video addressing your observation about the wrist/arm level. I don't think that was the issue for you. It seemed to me more of a bow hold issue.

Thanks Simon :) I started loose vibrato practice about 2 month ago and changed to daily practice at around one month ago. Itīs still far away from automatic and needs full attention but Iīm starting to integrate vibrato in simple tunes like Beth suggested :)

Hi Andreas,          your vibrato looks to be coming along very nicely. Im intrested to know roughly howlong its taken you to get to this point?

So thatīs where I am with vibrato right now. I did your bowing patterns Beth and then tried the bowing pattern of minuet 1. At the frog I have the same problem as you Armin...the bow begins to bounce a bit.

Note to myself: light from the side is very disadvantageous ;)))

Hi Armin,

Nice job. The problem you were having at the frog wasn't because of the violin shaking, but was due to tension in your bow hand. A relaxed bow hand will allow the bow to absorb little shakes or bobbles that come come along.

The structure of your vibrato movement is mostly great, but sometimes becomes uncontrolled. When you practice the exercises, I think you should stay in 4th ish position to anchor the arm so that you will gain a little more stability.

Sure, Armin. This would be a good place. THat way, others who stumble upon the posts later will see the exercises connected with the instructional video.

Hi Beth,

Great video, I'll be archiving this and a few others for later.  Considering the topic of this video probably sometime in the summer or fall of next year.  Of course it will not really matter if it does not turn out to be the fall.  It will be there when I need it.

Best,

Ray
