This discussion includes members-only video content Hi everyone! Finally renewed my membership, so here's another video from me after quite a while. Critiques very welcome. I can see that my pinky still probably isn't sufficiently bent. Also the winding on my A string came loose. Urban Kristan 7 Responses Posted: August 20, 2017 Last Comment: August 23, 2017 |

@Beth Very valuable polishing video, thank you! When I bought my violin I felt kind of silly to imagine that I could start learning it and make any progress. You and this site have been very helpful. |

@Jaime Thanks! You're enthusiasm is infectious :) @Dianne Thanks you! Yes it is a bit of a shift but it is also very freeing to play with a higher hand. @Nick I've been working on intonation, so I'm glad it's not in vain. Still work to do! Thanks for you comment! |

Urban! Excellent! I see relaxed bowing, relaxed violin hold. I hear smooth beautiful intonation... LOVE the performance! Keep it up! :0) |

@Barbara Habel Wow, that is very much on point and extremely helpful! I'll be working on that for sure. Thank you very much for being so observant, this makes so much sense! I suppose I wasn't paying attention at some point... or maybe I forgot in the course of time. @Maria Thank you! Among my favorites so far as well. :) |

Dear Urban This sounds very nice. I can not see your left elbow. But judging by how your wrist bends on the higher strings, it seems to me that your left elbow is very much fixed. Moving your fingers from string to string becomes easier if you keep the same hand/finger frame and rotate the left elbow to facilitate that your fingers are hovering over the different strings. Then you just need to put them down. And your arm/hand line remains straight and that on all strings, just by rotating the left elbow under the violin. Your elbow needs to be facing your back when on the E string and facing the front on the G string. The others fall in between. The 2nd point I would like to make is that your left hand fingers are very low over the fingerboard. Watch how the top of the fingerboard is more than half way up the first part of the index finger. It ought to be at the base of that index finger. This will give you more freedom when doing vibrato. You do some nice bowings and a quick retake. And your playing is very melodic. So well done. |
