Hi Beth! Do you have a mini-series on Timing and Rhythm? Although I play piano, I've never felt overly confident that I truly understand. Memories of my piano teacher saying "apple pie", "one-e-and-uh" and things like that.....still confuses me! Thanks, Janice

Hi Beth, I'm back from vacation. I'm amazed at all that's going on with Violin Lab. That's great, thanks to you! I have a question for you. Why do I have a red mark on my neck after practicing the violin? I can't seem to stop doing whatever I'm doing to cause it. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks, Dyan

Beth, would it be possible for you to make a video on how to tackle variations D and E of Twinkle Little Star (Suzuki book I)? I have tried and tried again, but I don't seem to get it correctly. I have moved past those tunes for sake of sanity, but I keep coming back each week to see if I can get them, but I still fall short.

I guess that triplets and sixteenths groupings are beyond my brain capacity. ;-)

I suppose that those variations are my Achillesé─˘ heel as I've been at it for at least 2 months.

I need some guidance on how to keep from getting ahead of myself. How proficient should I be with one lesson before I incorporate the next lesson into my practice? How many things should I be working on at the same time? I have only been "playing" about 1 month. I like the violin so much, that I want to be able to play the Canon in D next month! I know, impossible. Any Ideas out there?

How does one go about increasing accuracy of hitting the correct string/note AND speed with good coordination between left hand fingering and bow control on right hand? I'm guessing scales and arpeggios exercises; is that correct?

Like most beginners, I can play slow songs alright, but once the rhythm/speed increases everything falls apart. I'm sure I'll get it eventually, but if you could suggest some exercises for increasing speed and accuracy with both bow and fingers that would be great! Thanks!

p.s. I'm am currently working on May Song (Suzuki) but hope to have a bit more confidence and speed (with good control) for when I get to Perpetual Motion :-)

Hello, I am a very beginner. I have not seen this question, so hopefully I didn't miss it. I am just beginning and going through the beginning lessons. I see that some members are also using method books in their learning. I find that this website and lessons work well with my learning style. Should I also be using books? I also do not have a private teacher at the moment.
