One of my favorite pieces for long sustained bow strokes is Air by Bach. It takes a lot of control to hold one note 9 counts at 66 on the metronome. If one can play that first note well it does wonders for the rest of a persons playing. Check out Sarah Chang playing this piece on youtube. WOW

I just want to thank Beth for creating a beginner's tutorial on this tune. I know the seasoned veterans on our site have already worked on this piece and it's probably old hat now. lol. I'm working on several pieces at the moment, but I will find some time here and there and I'll give this tune a try. It can't hurt right?

I will keep you posted. Thanks again for thinking of us struggling beginners. ;-)

Beth, here be a question about musical phrasing, although I'm still in Edwin Abbott's Flatland world(where I should be right now)but when I do start exploring your world of three dimensions, is it possible to apply this musical expression to anything, say something like Twinkle Twinkle?

Hi Beth, If it's possible, if you could have the questions on a video included with the actual vid. that would be great. I don't mind using the google search, but it is a little slow sometimes.

Hi everyone, I am shifting to 5fth position but I still have a little trouble. When I go up I am fine but going down, my thumb tends to stay. Oh, it does move down, but it does not go completely to it's post. I can still see my 2nd and 3rd finger, but the 1st finger, it is too high. Thanks for any tips!

I just got my new bon musica shoulder rest...and I have no clue how to adjust it. I managed to get it on my violin but there is about a 4-inch gap between the bottom of the rest and my chest. It could be upside down or backwards, I wouldn't know. Can anyone suggest a website with a good explanation of how to "install" and adjust this rest? The official instruction booklet that came with the rest is not helpful to me at all. My violin has a wider lower bout.

Beth, in my book you have total "bragging" rights. These new series are simply amazing! This particular video is by far the most informative video for a beginner such as myself. Here is my why.

While every music book and most every teacher I have taken lessons from has furthered my understanding of music, I believe that neither has ever really explained or described how to use the bow. More specifically, how to effectively divide the bow while playing a tune. I often find myself running out of bow or rushing notes due to improper bow distribution.

As a matter of fact, It was your tutorial on O Come. Little Children Suzuki song number 5, Book I that I first realized how bow distribution was so important. I must have watched that video alone at least 1,000 times!! It's yet another awesome tutorial.

So, by all means, be "braggy!" Your tutorials are simply First Class and Unmatched. Thank you for continually educating and inspiring us to become better players.

I don't remember if I posted this here before or not...but for anyone who is working on Thais "Meditation"...this is a decent piano accompaniment for you to play along with.

After getting most of the bugs worked out in your playing, it's nice to have some accompaniment to go along with what you're doing. There are other "issues" that crop up when you put what your playing along with someone else. Besides, it's just more fun !

Hi Beth, I just sampled the new Google search bar and (for me anyway)the ads are not annoying at all. Especially if it means keeping your expences down. Cheers, Ray
